Getting rid of acne is a battle for acne sufferers. Acne, appears in different forms and, looks and often feels unpleasant. Anyone who suffers any form of acne wants to get rid of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Keep in mind that acne comes in various types and that several factors can cause acne; therefore, to clear acne you have to take these factors into consideration.

Before we talk about actual acne treatments, let’s talk about a few tips that will help you clear acne.

– Avoid touching your face, or other acne prone parts of your body unless absolutely necessary. And you have to, wash your hands first. Touching transfers dirt, bacteria and oil and can irritate your skin, making perfect grounds for a breakout.

– Change your pillowcases and bed sheets frequently (replace your pillowcase daily if you can).

– Always wear clean clothes, even sleeping clothes (this means only wear each piece of clothing once and then wash). We may not get something dirty and tend to just throw it back on again before we wash it; or think that because we’re doing nothing more than sleeping in our night wear, that they’re not actually dirty when in reality they have picked up dirt, oil and dead dry skin. Acne prone individuals must be mindful of this.

– Shower or take a bath often. Don’t try to skip a day, that’s a no-no for acne prone skin. Wash your face when you wake up and in the evening before bed (and even sometime in between if your skin is overly oily).

– Be aware of the ingredients in your detergent and fabric softener, some detergents contain perfumes or other irritant ingredients. Use a ‘clean’ detergent.

– Keep hair out of your face to cut down on bacteria from transferring to your face from your hair and hair products (ingredients in hair products can clog pores). If your hair must be in your face (bangs, etc.) cleanse the places it touches frequently and carry oil sheets to dab on those places of your face throughout the day to reduce oil.

– Drink LOTS of water! Water purifies your body and skin inside and out.

These tips are important to maintaining clear skin and get rid of acne. Now let’s get into some of the treatments you can use.

For getting rid of acne fast, you’ll need to use treatments that have salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. There are an array of products that contain one of these ingredients from face cleansers to gels that stay on the skin. For a bad breakout, you may consider the face wash in addition to gel being put on the actual pimples or breakout areas (you’ll want to skip areas that are not affected to prevent excessive drying). You can use white toothpaste on a pimple to help reduce it overnight (stick with white or you may dye your skin). Using a face wash that also contains exfoliant beads is good for exfoliating while cleansing your face.

Don’t ever pop pimples. They only become uglier and you risk spreading the bacteria to other areas, just asking for another pimple to pop up.

No matter the type of acne you have to deal with, it’s possible to be acne free if you know the things that contribute to acne. Knowledge is the best acne treatment and your main firepower for getting rid of acne.
